The Northeast Classic is taking a year off after a family move to Connecticut. We expect to start up again in 2017 in a new location, but with the same amazing cause.
The Northeast Classic - Face-Off Against Cancer
In 2007 a member of the University of Vermont men's lacrosse team was diagnosed with testicular cancer. We watched the team come to grips with the reality that cancer can touch anyone at any age. We started this event in 2008 to give New England a fantastic college lacrosse event and raise awareness for a cause we all believe in.
Last year another member of the University of Vermont men's lacrosse team was diagnosed with cancer. Because we have grown so close to and learned so much from Dr. Mary-Ellen Taplin at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute we knew the best steps for this player to follow. He was seen within the week, followed their treatment plan at home and is in full remission.
The proceeds from our women's event are donated to Dana-Farber's Patient and Family Services Program. The proceeds from our men's event are donated to Dr. Mary-Ellen Taplin's research in Genitourinary Oncology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. We know 100% of the proceeds are going to programs we trust and believe in.
We sincerely appreciate all of the participating teams, sponsors, donors, fans, volunteers, and supporters!
In total over the last four years we have donated over $179,000 to cancer research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
